Announcing my latest Beginners’ Papercutting Workshop!

WHERE? A beautiful purpose-built workshop space at Swallows & Artisans in Coniston, the Lake District.

WHEN? Saturday, 14th of April 2018, from 10am-4pm

Fancy trying a new craft? At this special workshop, you’ll be taught the basics of papercutting, including scalpel technique, practicing shapes, lines and curves, and understanding simple design techniques. You’ll then have the opportunity to move on to cutting a pre-designed template of your choice – choose from flowers, birds or perhaps a quote piece – so that you’ll go home with at least one completed papercut, ready for you to frame at home (or I can frame on the day!). The workshop will also cover more advanced techniques such as colour infills and designing your own templates.

No previous experience is needed and no drawing skill is required – just a willingness to learn and try something new!

This relaxed workshop is taking place in a luxurious venue on the shores of Coniston Water in the beautiful Lake District. The venue has ample parking and accommodation is also available at neighbouring beautiful historic house Lanehead (see Eventbrite link for details). The workshop will start at 10am and finish at 4pm and will include a delicious lunch and refreshments. All materials are supplied within your ticket price, including cutting mats, scalpels, blades, paper and a variety of hand-drawn papercutting templates, plus drawing materials if required. You will receive personalised tutoring as part of a small group (no larger than eight attendees) from papercutting artist Melissa Holmes, who has more than six years’ experience in this creative method.

Here’s what attendees have said about previous workshops tutored by Melissa:

“Just wanted to say I think you did a fab job with us last night! I really enjoyed it. You are excellent at what you do – very professional while being a real people person and putting everyone at ease.” (Depika)

“I thought the session was great, I felt I learned a lot in a relatively short space of time. It was nice to learn about you and the way you work and the pieces you create. I can see my attempt being a one off, but it was more about the experience rather than the finished piece. I really appreciate now the time and effort that goes into each and every cut and think you are fantastic at what you do. Oh and it should definitely come with a complimentary massage!” (Kat, who got a quick shoulder massage mid-workshop as she was struggling with her shoulders!)

I’d love to see you at the workshop if you can make it – grab yours now!
